Coverage
Currently we have excellent coverage in Gauteng and Cape Town. Unlike cellular links, our links can cover very long distances. However, the limitations are on the clients side. A laptop only has coverage for a few meters. A typical wireless device has coverage of perhaps a few hundred meters. Using an external wireless device we are able to get you coverage from over 40 km away. Our coverage is limited strictly to Line Of Site. So a link from a client location to a tower is limited by the surrounding infrastructure, buildings, trees etc. If your location can clear local obstructions, then it is likely a connection is possible.
Even areas that are blocked, can be resolved by installing a localised relay point to overcome the obstacle. In order to provide a coverage list we have developed an online tool. By using this tool you can determine your proximity to our towers. The tool can be accessed via plotter.vlocity.co.za.
When you open this tool, it will ask you for a physical address. Enter the address, or move the map around with your cursor. Locate your position on the map and click the spot. A Marker will appear. Move the marker to your exact location. Then click the search options to locate your nearest 10 hiSites closest to you. You can also put in the height of your building which is important to determine accurate LOS to the tower. A Standard building stands at about 3 meters per floor. We will establish a pole on the building which can be up to 5 meters tall.
The plotter is loaded with all our towers. It will calculate an accurate LOS to the nearest towers.
Our plans are to rollout into a wider region in 2010. We have established offices in the following areas with the intention to populate towers in these areas in 2010.
